I believe that we all go into college or the next step of our live's after high school, with high expectations. We expect that we will thrive, create a new independent life and become who we are meant to be. We create goals and wait for them to be reached, however we want to skip a thousand tiny steps to get to the end result. (Kind of like final causation in Science 101.... I learned that this year, amongst many things...) We really like seeing to do lists, or at least i do, and enjoy crossing things off slowly hour by hour. It becomes the little things you accomplish that you feel most proud of. One hour of studying, CHECK! You can be amazed at how much one hour of solid studying everyday will do for you.
I do not personally have all the tricks and tips, nor have I tried all the tricks I found on pinterest. However i have the lessons that i have learned and the ones that my sisters and friends have taught and told me about. You can learn a lot from others mistakes if you really listen and hear them. Throughout the first semester of college and sorority life I learned so much. I wanted to share a few of the more important things..
- Study. Just for an hour everyday, 30 minutes for each subject even. Just do it. You will feel more prepared for tests and you will not feel as rushed when you have to start to study for midterms or finals.
- Ask for help!!!! I know plenty of strong women who are even a little worried about asking for help. You will feel amazing after you do it. You will thank yourself afterward. Do not be afraid to ask a friend to go with you to a counseling center or tutor. You are not alone in any part of this.
- Being in a sorority doesn't mean anything stereotypical. It means having 145 women to call at 12am to go on a walk in the freezing cold. It means an incredible group of strong women that will be there for you at 3am. It means having fun and creating bonds that will never fade. It means family.
- I also learned that once you get the hang of your schedule, you create your own little campus within any size of college. I had one building where all my classes, except lab, were in. It was a blessing!
College is a time to grow and find yourself. Don't hold back, I can see that these next 7 semesters will bring amazing things and beautiful people into my life. The most incredible feeling of accomplishment was when I went home for thanksgiving break and the women I work for said, "You seem more confident & mature! College looks good on you." That made me feel like I'm heading in the correct direction and I'm so ready for the rest of my journey here in Washington to unfold.
